QingYan is an ancient town built in 1378 as a strategic military defence location. Surrounded by what the locals call the “Not so Great Wall” to keep enemies entertained.
The place is 1h away by bus from GuiZhou’s capital city: GuiYang and every second of that hour is worth the visit. You will find nothing but stone buildings, wooden doors and DELICIOUS FOOD!!

This time Brian will try:

1. Fried Tofu Balls: One of my favourites! As I said in the video, these are deep fried battered tofu balls, they are partially hollow so they can easily be filled with the sauce. They are insanely meaty and juicy. The sauce is mostly black vinegar and soy sauce, with chilli oil, “ZheErGen” (a local root with what people describe as a “fishy smell and flavour”), garlic, coriander and spring onions. Buy more than I did, they’ll be gone in a second!

2. Pig’s Feet: Some of you might have tried them, some of you might have heard of them. A very traditional and simple chinese snack. Whole feet are thrown in a big pot full of other parts of the same animal, including skin, cartilage, bone, etc that renders the broth rich and packed with nutrients. They also add a bit of sugar to help soften the meat and give it a sweet taste. Doesn’t get any more tender than that! It literally melts in your mouth.
Except for the bones! The don’t melt in your mouth! Don’t go choking and blaming it on me!

3. Blood Tofu: Different to the usual blood tofu which comes in a jelly like consistency this one is dry and EXTREMELY MEATY, I would’ve though it was a huge meatball if it werent for the lady telling me! Do not, I repeat Do not eat it as a snack! Follow video instructions

4. BayBerry Juice: I don’t know why I’m adding this here, but I don’t like odd numbers sooo… Juice! Fresh, sour and sweet, add vodka and/or mix with coconut juice and BAM! thirst crusher!
